| Ramly Burgers: For the Fastfood Lover with a Budget! |

![]() Welcome back, junk food lovers! Howarya? Bobo Bigmac here reporting for duty! Fairy was too busy to write this weekend as she's currently turning her room upside down in search for some things she wants to review in the next coming weeks. It's going to be good, I am telling you! She's already recovered 90% of whatever it is she wants to tell you about! So busy is our favorite webmistress that she's assigned me this week's article. Hope you don't mind having a small plastic robot burger narrate the story to you this time. I promise I'll spell check my words. And while you're reading, please keep your hands and feet inside at all times. Thank you. So Fairy tells me that she was in Padang Besar the other weekend doing some major shopping. After entering countless stalls with her sister and exiting with more plastic bags than there are fingers on an average person, she started to get hungry, tummy roaring ferociously and all. Then suddenly, a wonderful mouth-watering smell wafted her way and made her stop dead in her tracks.
![]() There couldn't have been a better time to bump into a RAMLY BURGER stall! Fairy starts waddling towards the stall with all those plastic bags hanging dangerously at the joints of her fingers, nearly fainting with hunger. But of course she makes it there in one piece, if not, this story would have never gotten out to you. Now Ramly burgers are only sold at modest stalls such as the one pictured here. In urban and city areas, the stalls are commonly found set up right next to 7-11 stores. It's a sweet 24-hours-a-day meal deal; people get hot burgers from the Ramly stalls, then they hop right into 7-11 for a drink. How's that for business co-dependency! The Ramly burgers themselves are literally what poor students and unemployed Malaysians would eat when they get sick of eating Maggi Mee instant noodles. Cheap doesn't necessarily mean shitty food though. Ramly Burgers are filling and taste awesomely good! Have I mentioned that they're also dirt cheap?
![]() Hot dang, I forget just how incredibly cheap these Ramly Burgers are! Good Lord, one ringgit fifty sen for a beef burger (roughly 40 US cents for all you ringgit-illiterate people). The most expensive burger is only RM2! By Jove, I think I just solved the mystery as to why McDonald's is losing popularity among penniless young adults! I really must have a word with the marketing director at McDonald's. If you're wondering what a "Burger Special" is, I hear it is meat burger (chicken, beef or fish, your choice), wrapped in an omelet. Crikey that sounds good. If I ate one, would I be considered a cannibal? Yes, yes back to the story.
![]() Fairy promptly ordered two "burger daging" (beef burgers), and so the guy who was chef at the gerai started getting busy. He whipped up some beef patties from his little white Styrofoam box and got into some serious burger flipping action!
![]() Err, yes, it was sort of an awkward position for Fairy to snap pictures of this dude who was fully aware of her actions. But nevertheless Fairy stuck with her photojournalistic duty with so much devotion that it was very humbling to a National Geographic photographer by comparison. Fairy was good at ignoring the bewildered stares from the burger dudes in her quest to bring you this story with pictures! Imagine if we were to start talking about cheap burgers without pictures. Do you think you'd be interested? I didn't think so, either!
![]() Now, after the beef patties are cooked to perfection (and after which they start emanating that wondrous smell of cooked seasoned meat!), the dude tosses them in a tray temporarily and sets to toast the burger buns with generous loads of Planta margarine. Squish. Sizzle.
![]() The buns are all warm and toasty, now the burger flipper hands them over to his burger associate for dressing! Ramly burger dressing does not consist of typical western burger condiments at all. Instead of lettuce and tomato for garnishing, shredded cabbage and carrots, and sliced cucumbers are used! Because of how the meat patties are seasoned and flavored, these types of greens go so well with them!
![]() After piling up all the veggies, sweet chili sauce and Lady's Choice mayonnaise are smothered on generously as the final touch to the great edible masterpiece that is Ramly Burger. The "Abang" burger deftly wrapped the two completed burgers in napkin-like wrappers and handed them over to Fairy, for which she fished out RM3.00 from her pocket.
![]() Fairy couldn't keep her visual curiosity to herself, so she wanted me to show you the insides of the burger!
![]() Whether this picture will make your stomach churn or your mouth water, that's not my problem, I'm just doing my job. But would you look at that: all the shredded cabbage, carrots, sliced cucumber adorning the beef patty with all that oozing mayonnaise and chili sauce between two warm toasted buns! Argh!!! Why did I ever agree to narrate this article and betray my people!
![]() But you know, after seeing Fairy looking so happy and contented in this photo with her economically friendly Ramly burger, I really couldn't say no and not do this article. I'm also very glad I'm made of plastic. I'm Bobo Bigmac, signing off for MyIndo.com.
